Design, Engineer, and Manufacture UL-compliant Fetal Monitor Carts

Collaborate with nurses working in Labor & Delivery departments to design ergonomic carts for labor and delivery suites across five hospitals

Patient rooms are where the work happens — and where the existing setup wasn’t working. Medical gases were hard to reach. The fetal monitor was poorly positioned for the doctor at the foot of the bed. Nurses needed a cart that put everything within reach without getting in anyone’s way, and that could adjust to fit whoever was working the room that shift.

Faustrollean was brought in for our ability to move fast from concept to prototype to finished product. We met directly with nursing staff, built 3D models for review, and worked through a series of improving prototypes until we had a design that solved the real problems: electronic height adjustment, retractable keyboard tray, integrated fetal monitor port, storage drawer, and pull-out baskets. A nurse station with two monitors meant the doctor and nurse could each do their work without interference.
We also designed a mobile materials cart and a battery-powered L&D cart — so that a patient arriving at the emergency room ready to deliver could be rolled straight to a room without needing a power source on the way.

Then came the harder part. Because no electrical device can be used within ten feet of a patient without UL certification, every component and every connection between components had to be individually labeled and certified. The assembly process was standardized and managed carefully for compliance across all units — a level of regulatory rigor that goes well beyond anything a typical cabinet shop handles.

This was exactly the kind of project that requires a company capable of design, engineering, manufacturing, and certification under one roof. We delivered across five hospitals.
